Halloween Again
Philipa was pretty excited about the whole thing. While shopping for costumes at Target, we asked her what she wanted to be.

"Costume. I want to be a costume!"
"How about a princess?"
"Nooooo! I want to be a costume!"
"This horse one is cute..."
"COSTUME!!"

We eventually got her a princess costume. Philip put up much less fuss and was a dragon. He was pretty excited about that, but he's pretty darn excited about everything, especially his sister, see?

Philipa told the little boy down the street that she was a Princess who would save the dragon. The boy got very upset and started lecturing us, "Nooo, Philipa. Princesses don't rescue dragons. Princes kill them! You can't do that, that's not right! etc" while his mother rolled her eyes. I gather she gets this a lot.

Anyhow, on Halloween we walked the two up and down our block, visiting about 15 houses. People were pretty excited about the whole show, and there were some really cute kids out and about. Philipa was pretty shy at her first house, tried to walk into the second, and was a seasoned pro by the third. She'd stop and look inside her bag after getting stuff and happily shout out "Candy!" or "Lollipop!"

We got home around 6, and I sat on the porch to hand out candy. Philipa helped, and she gave away about half the candy before she paused and said, "I need some candy for myself." I thought is was hilarious to see her trying to sort out the 5 bigger kids that had come, making sure they all got some candy. She was very cute.

We ran out of candy around 7PM, 5 bags were used.

We didn't get as many kids come around our block this year as last-- I don't know why.

"I want to be a costume!" I love this.

It really makes me wonder what image she had in her head.

I must know.
Have you gained the essential dad-skill of being able to put up a ponytail? Have you gone further and learned how to braid?

I do a pretty rudimentary ponytail/pig tails. I can braid but lack the patience for it. Philipa is a darling and generally lets us fiddle with her hair without complaining.

I always wonder how dads learn that skill.

I never get over her red hair. It is such an unusual color. You know you could have her model in a second.

Is Phillip a redhead too?

Keep making babies!! You are great at it!!

I am constantly informed by my six year-old that I can only ever be the PINK Power Ranger because the PINK Power Ranger is a GIRL. I can never be the big, bad RED Power Ranger.....only boys can save the world!!

*sigh* I wish we went through 5 bags of candy on Halloween. I really miss seeing all the costumes.
