Home Alone
T took Philip to Colorado for a conference, leaving me home alone with Philipa. I'm getting all excited trying to plan the weekend out. This evening I plan on using some of my CSA vegetables somehow. My current plan is sauteed shrimp with some of the cilantro, and maybe sauteeing the swiss chard or kale. Problem is I've never cooked those before, so I have no idea what I'm in for. I'm pretty sure Philip won't like them.

My plan to keep her occupied while I cook? Let her mix bubbles on the floor.

Bubbles a la Philipa:
in a salad-spinner basin, add 1/4 tsp dishsoap and several cups of water
give wisk, spoon, and cups to child
dry thoroughly

So, you don't mind if she gets soapy water all over the floor? Wow.

What exactly is Philip going to do during this conference? Is there childcare on-site or is he going to attend everything with T?

Breast-feeding...and yes, there is childcare on-site. The plan was to bring him anyhow, just because it was easier than juggling stored milk. Then T discovered that they have a day-care, so she can ship him off there for her presentations.

And I don't mind if she gets a little water on the floor. She's very well-behaved, so she keeps most of it in the salad-spinner bowl. She did slip the other day, which is a pretty good way of training her out of making a giant puddle. Maybe I'm a bad parrent...

How are you liking the CSA so far?

I like it a lot. I don't think you save money, but so far the veggies have been really good. We signed up for a half-share, and I wish we'd gone all the way.

Best thing so far were the pea-shoots. I sauteed them with some garlic, put a little sesame oil and sugar on them, and fought over who got how much.

Chard and kale may be a little bitter for Philipa, but I love 'em.

Yay for bubbles!

I knew better than to offer that. She did like the egg noodles I made.
